The Gulf Youth in Ag team has received an ABC Heywire Youth Innovation Grant from the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal (FRRR) to host a "Boots for Change” Dinner to showcase local produce.
Inspired by the “Boots for Change” project, which was generated at the ABC Heywire Youth Summit to grow awareness of local food production and support family farms, the team came up with the idea of holding a dinner under the stars using all local produce.
The Gulf Youth in Ag team working on the “Boots for Change” dinner is made up of a group of high school students from across the Atherton Tablelands with some mentors from Northern Gulf Resource Management Group.
“The boots for change dinner event was created by us youth to raise awareness for fresh, healthy, local produce” said Year 11 student, Ellie Hughes “This dinner will involve a 3 course meal including entree, dinner and dessert".
Special Guest speaker on the night is Paul West from River Cottage Australia, who will be working with local chef Leeandra Norman from Love Lee Cooking in preping the meal!
The team also plans a boots photo competition through the Gulf Youth in Ag Facebook page in honour of the “Boots for Change” project.
